Beyond the Wall

Today, the library staff donned our hard hats and stepped beyond the wall for a tour of the future Heaton Learning Commons!

First reactions were simple and positive: It's very bright! With the skylight open and glass all around, the upper floor of the future library is aglow with natural light in every direction. It is certainly going to be a welcoming and comfortable atmosphere for students to enter into in the Fall semester.

While there is still a lot of work to be done on the ground floor, construction is nonetheless moving at a steady pace, and is expected to wrap up in June. The next big project will be the central staircase, which will fill the area beneath the skylight.

With every day that passes, the renovation comes one step closer to completion!

It's been a bit noisy here once again as construction continues. Nonetheless, the new temporary library space is being discovered and explored by students as the semester begins.

Just looking at the photographs of the interior spaces upstairs, with the skylight open and the glass storefronts installed, it's easy to see that the Heaton Learning Commons will be a beautiful finished project.

Frigid temperatures continue as classes start back up here at Butler County Community College. Although we have seen some technological issues already, the library is open and available for students as the semester begins.

We caution anyone visiting us that, for the time being, there are no restrooms in the library and that we are no longer connected to the Business Health Building next door. At the moment, the only access to the building is through the front doors.

Big changes have taken place at the BC3 library in the past two weeks! Changes so big we haven't been able to update our blog to tell you about them!

Upon returning from our holiday break, the BC3 library and maintenance staff immediately dove into the big project of moving all staff, books, and furniture from our former temporary location to our NEW temporary location (with the exception of those books that went into storage).

The process of physically moving our furniture, books, and supplies was accomplished in just a couple days last week, but the process of moving us functionally is still ongoing. First heat, then power; the library staff is still waiting on phones and internet while the IT staff works on setting up our computer lab for student use.

The BC3 library can still be reached thru the same old entrance as before, except that now you will make a left upon entering instead of a right. During the duration of the renovation, our available resources are significantly limited, but we will still offer all that we can for student use throughout the next semester. We have brought with us the entirety of our Reference collection, our computer lab, our scanner and copier, and several work tables. Our current newspapers and periodicals will also be on display, as per the usual.

We invite you to come take a look and visit us in our new temporary location. It won't be long before another big change comes along!
