Yet again, our collection is boxed up and prepared to be moved into storage!

After significant hard work on the part of everyone here at the BC3 library, the remainder of the books we had kept on display during the first leg of the renovation has now been completely packed for storage for the remainder of the transition.

A small portion of our collection (primarily Reference and a few specially-requested books) will move with us to the new Temporary Library Location, but for the most part the collection as a whole will remain in storage from here until the end of the renovation.

Final preparations are being made for this, our nearly final move, as we enter into the week before the holiday break. The building has certainly come a long way since construction started, but there is still plenty to be done in the Spring!

This week, the library staff makes it final preparations to move into the new temporary library location. Books are being packed, furniture is being moved, and plans are being made for our imminent move.

Meanwhile, steady work continues in the rest of the building as the final steps are taken to prepare the new temporary space for our arrival. From then on out, it will only be a matter of time to completion.

Anyone who came within several feet of the library this past Thursday would have been made well aware of the fact that there was some serious painting going on this week in the renovated library space. Though the initial fumes of the primer were quite noticeable, we were assured they should not be a problem as the painting continues. So far so good.

Another week passes, and the date draws nearer when the library staff will be moving into the new Temporary Library Location on the other side of the wall.  Change is always imminent.

As Nancy boxes up the last of our current periodicals, we grow one step closer to our December move to the new Temporary Library Location photographed below.

In the meantime, the future front entrance of the Heaton Learning Commons is beginning to take real shape now and we all look forward to the day when the entrance is fully finished and welcoming students inside.

As the library staff continues preparation for our move in December, the construction crew likewise prepares a space for us to move into. Temporary barriers and carpets are laid down for the next temporary site of the library staff on the other side of the lower floor. We will remain in this space until the end of the renovations, leaving only when necessary so that finishing touches may be completed. During this phase, the library will still be accessible by the old entrance.

Things continue to run smoothly at the BC3 library as the pre-winter chill begins to set in. We've seen our fair share of students coming and going and are pleased to be able to be of use and assistance to students even while we are in our current state.

The temporary set-up in the BC3 library expects to undergo serious transition in December, wherein our staff will move into a partially-finished area of the new space while the construction shifts to our current habitat. Before that can happen though, a good deal of work must be done on our part; there are a lot of moving pieces involved in this transition. Periodicals and books must be boxed and transported again and furniture, computers, phones and more must be moved into the new space.

The library will continue to remain open whenever possible and our staff will continue to do our best to assist students along the way.

As we prepare for this new transition, construction continues all around us.
